About the Business

We are a family run firm who have been operating out of our workshop in Bishops Castle, Shropshire since 1989. Joseph and James have taken the reigns from their Father Thomas Martin, and Uncle Jeremy Bryce-Smith and continue with the skills that have been passed on.

Castlewood specialise in bespoke architectural joinery and cabinet making and pride ourselves on quality of work and attention to detail. Using a mixture of traditional and modern methods we can provide a high level of craftsmanship to your joinery needs. Whether it is your dream kitchen, a new front door, replacement sash windows, a staircase or a large-scale green oak extension, the process starts with a desire to use quality timber from well-managed, local, and sustainable sources.

Business Services

Kitchens

The manufacturing and installation of bespoke kitchens is one of favorite jobs to undertake. From the initial design stage and talking through ideas with the customer we then go away with the basic dimensions of the room and put these ideas to paper so to provide hand drawn sketches of the proposed kitchen as the client envisages. We will also provide expertise with advice design and layout, storage solutions, content of the units, and the diffrent types of timber that are best suited to certain situations.

Stairs

Staircase are James's favorite piece of joinery to make! They require knowledge and skill to get right and are based in mathematics. A staircase starts life from two measurements; the rise and the going. This is then taken to a white board and drawn out 2D to actual size. From here all measurements are taken and referred back to throughout the manufacturing process. Whether a standard straight flight, or a cut string with multiple quarter or half landings, or even curved, the staircase comes to life from these drawings and is then put together in the workshop and on-site.
